HEY BABY
I THINK I WANT TO MARRY YOU

James Shaant Potter was going to make one of the biggest commitments of his life, to someone who was the biggest commitment of his life. James wasn’t good with these kind of things, but he needed to do it. He hadn’t exactly bonded with Mum and Dad yet, and Lily hadn’t exactly met his own Pap, or Adison or Noelle for that matter. He was going off pure faith right now that the woman of his dreams would say yes. James had left a single letter entitled Lily with red letters on her desk at the Ministry. He knew her lunch break was soon, with apparition at their side these days. He could hopefully surprise her with this new surprise. Dear Lily, I’ve found something that I think you might want to check out. Meet me outside Godric’s Hollows entrance. I’m waiting for you so don’t worry about bringing anyone alongside. To make sure you know this is me and not a trick. I wore a green shirt on our first date, and was nervous as hell. I love you, Darling. See you soon! Love, James James stood in front of the mirror pulling the hoodie close to his ears. He could do this, he could do this.
James couldn’t bring anyone away from business. The war was getting heated; he couldn’t stand not knowing if she was safe throughout the night. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He couldn’t compromise this by someone attacking during the night. He knew she loved her parents, he knew she might hesitate. He couldn’t stop the way he watched her quickly run to their sides. She had missed them, he had missed his dad. His dad had also missed him, so when he walked home that night and told his father what he was thinking. His father hugged him and rubbed a hand through his hair as once did his mother. ‘Your mother would approve hm?’ He nodded quickly and his father slowly handed him something small, and shiny. A silver locket, one his mother had previously owned. The one his father had given his mother. How could the day get any better? He pulled a small tiny velvet box from his hand.
He opened it and showed his father. His father looked shocked. “I saved since…my 7th year” James replied quickly. His father nodded slowly. “It’s an emerald diamond, like her eyes” James claimed before closing the box. His father did nothing but held him tight. With a nod, James Father clasped his shoulder. James hugged him back before turning towards the door. ’Son, breathe’ James laughed softly before disappearing from the door way.
James paced back and forth in the house he had just bought the deed for. He had also been saving for this. Luckily he had a loving cousin who had plenty of money and didn’t know what to do with. He could always help with that. James bit down on his lip pulling the hood over his head. He didn’t want to scare her. He adjusted the glasses over his eyes. The silver locket hanging from his hand, he could feel the pressure of the velvet box in his left hand pocket. He needed to remember his dad’s advice. He needed to breathe. He loved Lily, she claimed to have loved him. Then why was he so nervous? He wasn’t quite positive Em liked him all that much. What was he going to do if she rejected him? What if she said this was to soon? Could James live without Lily? He was quite certain he would rather lie down in the dirt then have to face the world another day without her. He wanted to wake from a horrible dream and be confirmed that Lily had been lying there all along. He wanted someone to talk to him in a darkened room when no one else would. He was done being alone. He wanted, and needed someone to start a family with.
If it was love, then they could get married and love each other. Right? Bad things happened to bad people, therefore if any bad people were around them he would hex them. He of course would want to kill himself every time a mission called for him to leave Lily. Hopefully he could avoid ever having to watch her leave without him. He would probably go mad waiting up, lying quietly on his side waiting to make sure she got home safely. It was a good thing that most of the order members were good friends. But would they lay their life on the line like James would? James would jump in front of that green curse without a second to think about it. In fact he would probably do that for a few different people he worked with. But would others do that for his Lily? He couldn’t think about that. He wouldn’t have to. His heart steamed thinking about the possibility of the ring sitting on her finger. His ring, on her finger. He was a school girl when he thought about the one he loved, yet who wasn’t?
James crossed the street towards the small park entrance. The trees hung low with crackled leaves that begged for somebody’s attention. He didn’t have to be a seer to watch Lily guide one of their children around the small play equipment. How they would take turns pushing their children on the swings. James walked past a few benches towards the entrance sign. It was coming. His heart was racing, James was never nervous. Not leaving on a mission, not leaving his Father. Though he was nervous when it came to Lily. She had this power over him. Cheating was out of the question. Not even a few round of drinks would break the love curse. Actually it just made it worse. Sirius used to tease that Evans had slipped him a round of love potion number nine. He hardly felt that he was under anything. Besides it would have worn off by now. James pushed his wand into his pocket, holding the locket in on hand. He carefully slid it into his hoodie pocket followed by the velvet box. Another small letter laid in his back pocket.
He looked down to his watch, he had another two minutes before her lunch break, then another minute for aparation. James sat on the park bench, crossing his legs. What would he say? Wait, he had already practiced. He knew what he wanted to say, how to start, how to end. He ran a hand through his messy black hair. He pushed his glasses back up onto the bridge of his nose. He had to keep reminding himself to breathe. He kicked one black shoe in front of the other. His wristwatch beeped once. James inhaled. It was time. He stood next to the entrance. His arms in his pockets, feeling over the items that would hopefully change his life forever. He only needed her to say yes. ‘Lily Evans…would you become Lily Potter?’ That was awful, why was he trying to change what he planned. Plan A. He was going to stick with Plan A. His palms were sweaty. He had to clean himself up before Lily came. She would know something was wrong. He wiped his palms on his hoodie. His watch beeped again, now. She would be here at any moment. He inhaled slowly, before crossing his arms. Here it went, it was now or never. It had to be now!
