There was something Alice did when she couldn’t sleep at night. And that was to fly. Something about being on a fast moving broomstick cleared her mind. Then she’d be on an adrenaline high and wouldn’t be able to sleep. Mission not accomplished. Still, that didn’t stop the blonde from quietly stepping out of her bed. She got dressed in something suitable for flying. That meant long black pants, a tee with her leather jacket and boots. Now for the essential. Her broomstick. Alice got down onto her knees and grabbed the broomstick from under her bed. It was not the fastest broom but it got the job done. Alice had thought of getting a newer model, but she doubted her mother would approve. Alice was still sadly dependent on her parents for money. She would use her savings but she had used the majority of it over the summer on the very thing that was keeping her up right now.
The blonde shook her head. By telling herself not to think about it, she naturally thought about it. Reverse psychology did not work on this girl. Alice walked over to the window near her bed and pondered the consequences of her flying out of the window and being seen. Detention, deduction of points, a letter to her parents… the usual. Right. Opening the window, Alice turned around to look at the beds of her dorm mates. They looked like they were sleeping soundly. She mounted her broom, crouched low to avoid smacking her own head on the window pane and zoomed out of the window. Once out, she let out a laugh. Pointing her wand and locking the window again, Alice flew off into the night sky.
She had forgotten to tie her hair up and as she flew around the Gryffindor tower, it was whipped away from her face. After a few rounds and feeling just that bit chilled to the bone, Alice decided that it was time for a visit to the Quidditch Pitch. She’d yet to go there since the term started, though no doubt her captain would call a practise soon enough. Imagining that she was racing an imaginary rival, the blonde did several turns and hoops on her broomstick on her way to the Pitch. By the time she got there, she was predictably out of breath and best of all, whatever had been disturbing her was forgotten. For the moment.

Late night, being bundled up and watching as the puff of clouds came from her mouth, this was a true pastime. It was also something that made wandering around without the worries of being found, or suddenly confronted also easy. Though in all honesty she just wanted to find the chance to get away from the Gryffindor house, and who was Marlene McKinnon if she wasn’t willing to take the risk of being caught? Then again, the amount of times the seventh year had done this already, were quite a few and she had only been caught a couple of times.
A light snicker came to those rosy cheeks of hers, coming to brush some of the blonde hair from her face Marlene looked up towards the night sky as she reached the center of the Pitch. Scanning over each of the stars that her eyes landed on first, only to become distracted by something else flying around. Something else, which became a someone else, which in turn came to be known as Alice Logan. That grin that Marlene had been sporting appeared once more at the sight of her teammate. “Well, well…” she murmured under her breath, waiting for the fellow blonde to land before she would speak anything else.
“You weren’t someone I was expecting to see out here on this fine night.” Well, if people considered rather chilly weather to be fine, then it would end up fitting another person’s tastes much like it did her own. “What brings you out here?” adding on the last bit of the question Marlene shifted in her spot. Coming to rub her hands together for another moment. A second attempt to warm herself up more so than she already way, she hated the feeling of having an unwarmed body part, at least when it came to her hands, ears, or feet.
“Hopefully not up to anything too crazy.” Though these were often works that were being said to herself, rather than Marlene saying it to someone else. The words felt so foreign to her, she almost felt like some Prefect should jump out from behind the bushes and yell surprise, or some foolish nonsense like that. Pausing in her arm movement Marlene found herself carefully looking over Alice, searching for signs that she seriously should be concerned about her fellow teammate, friend, or housemate. Whatever someone else might call the two blonde standing there in the Pitch.
“Or are we just playing a game of solo Quidditch…you know, without any of the actual balls that are needed for it?” the last comment brought along that tone of joking or playfulness that often laced Marlene’s words.

To say she was expecting someone else on the pitch would be a lie. Then again, students of Hogwarts weren’t much known for sticking to the rules. Well, except for a certain few whose duties indicated they needed to stick to the rules. A certain Miss Evans came to mind. She touched down on the ground, near the figure, having recognised her. Marlene, the other Chaser on the Quidditch team besides her and Emmeline. The three of them made a darn good team in the air. Alice always thought that if they were losing, all the girls had to do was reveal a little skin and the boys from the opposing team might just give them the Quaffle. Not that she actually suggested that to anyone. Chances were she could lose her spot on the team for even suggesting that.
“Neither were you.” Alice replied, winking at her. She ran her hands through her hair, expecting it to look windblown and absolutely messed up. The blonde chuckled softly when Marlene said something about being up to anything crazy. “Oh, you know me, love. I’m never one for doing anything crazy. Flying around the Gryffindor tower and then coming here? Not crazy at all.” She kicked off again, hovering slightly above the ground.
She noticed the glance Marlene was giving her and she smiled. There were some days she didn’t feel like herself, such when someone said something that reminded her of what happened over the summer. Merlin knew just how she would feel if she ever got pregnant again. Still, Alice had gotten used to putting up a show for people. At least, people who didn’t know her that well. “I couldn’t get to sleep.” The blonde said. No need to add that she hadn’t been able to sleep for quite some time now.
“I suppose we could break into the locker room and steal the Quaffles. Or if you feel like it, the bludgers!” Alice grinned. “Or a race around the pitch? I would rather not crash into the stands again though.” The Gryffindor whined at the memory of a match last year where she didn’t brake in time and crashed right though the stands. That was not fun.

One of the things that she could confidently say was the fact that this year, for whatever reason, the Gryffindor team was overrun by the female gender, well not including James and Sirius. Some had been there for the last couple of years, much like herself, while others seemed to slowly join up. Either way Marlene found herself hoping that the team would either remain the way it already was, or to add more guys onto the team. She like girls, liked being around them and having them as friends, but there was such thing as too much estrogen and not enough testosterone.
Another light grin came to her features as Marlene listened to the comment and received the wink, but chuckled at the comment that was made next. “Oh? Just a few crazy laps hmm? Doesn’t sound to bad, and here I thought you could live up to those crazy expectations of mine.” There lay that teasing tone in her voice once more. “Well at least it wasn’t like you off having some crazy loving matter with that boy who seems oh-so cozy with you.” Ahhh Frank Longbottom, that admiration that he held for Alice was something which reminded Marlene of James when it came to Lily.
Teasing just seemed like one of those light hearted pass times, whether Marlene was doing it when she was around these two boys or if it was with either of the girls that the boys pined the affections of. “Sometimes I wonder if the boys are secretly dogs…Or some sort of animal like that.” Rubbing her chin for a moment at the thought. Marlene’s thoughts dragged away at the combination of the mention of lack of sleep and then bringing up the idea of breaking into the locker room.
“Oh my dear Alice, you just know me so well, don’t you?” a large grin coming to grace her lips again as she glanced over to where the lockers were. “I would almost want to break into the boys locker room if for nothing more than to trash it with toilet paper. It would be a surprise for them whenever they managed to call a practice around. Though it was probably more likely that someone else would find out and then the hunt of who did it would end up beginning. Soft laughter came from the blonde at the last comment that had been made.
“I think that everyone here has crashed into those damned things. Lord knows I’ve done it a number of times…More often then not wth a large group of people sitting there.” Snickering at the memories of not only herself performing not so skillfully, but the fact that she could very vividly remember the crash that Alice also spoke of.
“But flying in general, whether we break in or not does sound very tempting, if I do say so myself.”

“Just a few crazy laps.” Alice repeated after Marlene, the smile ever present on her face. Surrounding herself with people was something Alice did more ever since coming back to Hogwarts. Her thoughts were too dark when she was alone. Being around people made her forget. There were times she thought she was relying on Emmeline a little too much. And that her best friend would think she was being too clingy. So Alice would make an excuse and go find someone else. Em had a life, didn’t she? “Ah, what did you expect me to do?” Alice asked, almost sticking out her tongue. She was a slight rebel, had a thing for Slytherins but she knew her limits.
The blonde raised an eyebrow at Marlene’s next statement. “And that boy would be…?” Alice asked. Now she was just being stupid. Yes, she was aware that Frank liked her. The signs were there for years. But she never asked him about it. He never said anything before. And that was it. Alice was content to let it remain that way because she knew that he was too good for her. He deserved someone who was not… her. Did that make sense? Probably not. But since when did love make sense?
Alice let out a giggle. “Dogs? Like Animagi? You’re not talking about James Potter and his Marauders, right?” The blonde asked. She couldn’t picture them learning the extremely difficult magic of human transfiguration. She could however, picture James half human with some animal form for legs. The grin on her face widened. That was a funny image. One that she should tell Lily about. Could cheer the redhead up, if Alice was feeling generous enough.
“Almost want? I say we do it.” Alice told her. “We just have to be careful not to leave any sign that it was us.” The blonde laughed quietly. So much for trying not to be a rebel this year. It wasn’t working very well. But it wasn’t like she could change overnight. Not even James Potter could. “Or maybe not. I’m trying to be good this year.” Alice said, pouting a little. Ah well. She’d pass on that idea to the younger years.
“They should make it crash-proof.” Alice said, her gaze landing on one of the many stands. “Or at the very least, make it soft.” The blonde remarked, before shaking her head. Quidditch was a tough sport. But it was absolutely brilliant as well. “What are we waiting for then? Let’s go!” Alice took hold of her broomstick and zoomed up into the sky, heading nowhere in particular.

“What did I expect? Well, I could expect you to do quite a few things,” grinning as she rubbed her hands together, thinking of some sort of example she could place for Alice, “You could have flow off chasing after a bird or something and while on your crazed chase met a strong man, with beautiful heart stealing eyes.” Placing a hand over her heart she made a dramatic sigh come from her lips, “And oh how you would fall in love with him within an instant!” pausing she felt herself cover her mouth to keep the laughter of her own vision from coming out. “Or perhaps something simple like unplantting some of the trees in the Forbidden Forest. “
Twirling a strand of the fair blonde hair she smirked ever so slightly as she looked to Alice. “Well, I can think of a certain boy within our grade. Sort of like another James Potter…well, in a more modest sort of way.” Ah how Marlene seemed to have knack for picking on those pairs around Hogwarts where one partner, if not both, seemed to be in denial about any sort of future romance that was clearly coming their way. Of course, if she knew that it was a wrong time to tease someone about it then she would back down about it, there was no reason to force anything on them.
“But of course those three crazy boys, I mean come on. Sirius could be a rabbit, by the way that he seems to constantly going at it with anything that has boobs and a pretty face.” Pausing a moment as she began to think of what the other two could possibly be. “Remus could be…Hmm, perhaps…and Owl, you know because Owls are often looked at as one of the wise and calm creatures. Then of course there’s James, and he could be something like…Well…who knows what James could be, but I seem to have it down for the other two at least!”
Pouting slightly at the statement of Alice trying to be good, Marlene slowly nodded. “Ahh well. I wouldn’t want to ruin that good girl edge you’re going for. Way to fight the blonde girl stereotypes,” she added the last bit with that smile of her’s returning back to her features. It would be good to learn something from Alice, if she was truly going to be able to follow up with her plans of being a good girl, especially since Marlene would need to be like that at some point in her lifetime.
Chuckling at the idea of crash-proof Marlene nodded in approval before leaning over to pick up the broomstick that she had placed on the ground just a few minutes before. “Sounds like a plan!” mounting before pushing off into the air after the fellow Gryffindor housemate.
