i don’t believe that anybody - - - - - - feels the way i do about you now
, Everyone, no matter their background, status or profession, made mistakes. At some point, absolutely everyone would slip up, say the wrong thing and make a bad decision or twenty. Imperfection was human nature, and no one was exempt from it, so considering that, imperfection in itself could not be called a flaw. Still, there were some moments of weaknesses, some mistakes, which had far more grave consequences than others. Some were fatal. With just a little bit less luck, that would very likely have been the result of a couple of bad moves made on a recent auror mission. Being an auror was a dangerous profession, that was well known, made even more so by the fact that it was impossible to foresee and prepare for all the things that could go wrong. Some were unforeseeable, others simply inevitable, but all were dangerous. Dark magic, the kind they dealt with every day, was not a matter to be taken lightly. The witch they had been hunting was known to be a powerful and quite demented practitioner of dark magic, but the first mistake had been made long before actually encountering her. Because of her infamous insanity, they had assumed she operated by herself because even fellow criminals would be wary of her. They failed to consider just how many other lunatics would be willing to give it a shot, though. After all the years they’d worked as aurors, Felix and the rest really should have known better, so this was a perfect example the kind of arrogance that always seemed to come with experience. Thus the four went hunting for her, unprepared for the fact that she had companions as well. They had been able to determine that earlier and Felix, being a natural leader, could probably have convinced them to turn back and rethink their strategy, but since he was a Gryffindor, he was both brave and a little too proud for his own good, so they had continued. After all, they were four trained aurors. It was hard to say exactly what had happened next, but one thing was certain – they had fallen right into a trap. They hadn’t been careful enough, apparently, so their targets must have noticed them approaching. Chaos ensued, and the aurors were separated from each other. He had seen someone send up a spark of red light to call for assistance just moments before he was struck by a paralyzing spell, but since he was still alive (at least he assumed that was the case), someone must have seen it. He had been unconscious for most of the duration between then and now, though, and only vaguely recalled being forced to drink some foul-tasting elixir and the rush of pain that had followed directly afterwards. It had to be a good sign that he was able to think at least slightly clearly now, though. It meant he wasn’t drugged. His muscles were still tense and his body ached, but it wasn’t unbearable. He couldn’t move, though. Right now, he couldn’t even muster up the strength to open his eyes. ”Felix?” That was his name. He was in the company of someone who knew his name. Trying to figure out who it might be, it dawned on him that he was lying in a bed. The voice might still have been a figment of his imagination, though, he decided in his only semi-conscious state. Then someone touched him, and he heard the voice speak again. The words were not immediately clear, but they soon made more sense. His name again, and then he was asked to move. Respond. Move. Finally, he managed to open his heavy eyelids, his blue eyes immediately blinded by the light. The room wasn’t uncomfortably bright, but it still took him a few seconds of squinting to adjust. During those seconds, he became aware of a blonde woman sitting by his bed, and also realized that he must be in St. Mungo’s. So… Michelle? No, not Michelle, he concluded quickly as his mind cleared a little more. In fact, besides being blonde, this woman really looked nothing like his younger sister. His name was probably just something she had read in his files, as doctors and healers did. Still, there was something familiar about her. Quite quickly, he concluded she couldn’t be much older than him – probably a bit younger, in fact – so they might have met at Hogwarts. Yes, that had to be it. There were a lot of faced from his Hogwarts years he didn’t recognize, though, so why would this one seem more familiar? Then it dawned on him. Not too long ago, he had seen this woman’s photo in the Prophet, being appointed the youngest… well, something or other. Head of one of the St. Mungo’s floors, if he wasn’t mistaken, so that would probably be this floor, then. ”Alison?” he asked, his voice still coarse and just a little groggy. Was that even her name? It didn’t sound right. ”That’s not right… but Carter, right?” Normally, an article like that wasn’t something he’d pay attention to at all, but one of his friends had pointed it out, telling him that that girl had been a Hufflepuff only a few years younger than them. He wouldn’t have recognized her if not for that. He had been captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, after all, someone who knew and was known by a lot of people, but himself incapable of remembering all the faces. Arrogant? No, well, maybe just a bit. Right now, though, he was just a wounded auror in a hospital bed, recovering from a failed mission. That didn’t exactly boost his ego – which was just as well, probably, since his ego didn’t need any boosting. It was just a bit embarrassing, though. It might have been less so, had this girl been one of the older, more… homely healers, but she was both young and pretty. Just as that thought crossed his mind, though, the image of Michelle popped up in his mind. No, he wasn’t going to start thinking of a professional healer like that, because he wouldn’t like to hear that Michelle was being looked at as less talented because of her appearance. In fact, he’d be pretty pissed off. So he should probably not think of the woman beside him as just a pretty young woman either, then – she was a healer and had dealt with wounded people before. He was a patient, she was a professional. Just then, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, as if his muscles were contracting fast. Clenching his fists, he closed his eyes for a moment and tried to ignore it. Fortunately, he didn’t have to try for too long, because it passed by itself quickly. He had probably been given some kind of medication, then, because he remembered having felt worse rushes of pain through his body quite recently. Looking up at the healer again, he smiled very faintly. ”What’s happened to me, exactly?” he asked. Even if she obviously wouldn’t know how he’d been captured and force fed that elixir and all, she could at least probably tell him what was wrong. Like many aurors before him, though, he was quite sure he was lucky to be alive. tag: adison <3 word count: 1217 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: i couldn’t quite match yours, but i hope it’s okay. <3

THERE ARE MANY THINGS I'D LIKE TO SAY TO YOU BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW, I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW. 'CAUSE I SAID MAYBE, YOU'RE GONNA BE THE ONE THAT SAVES ME. AND AFTER ALL, YOU'RE MY WONDERWALL. [/s] Adison rolled her eyes, yeah nothing had changed. She held the file close to her chest turning to roll her eyes at Bethan. “I think I liked him better completely sedated.” Adison brightened at the fact that he had at least gotten her last name right. That was quite a statement for the most ever popular Felix Warden. “That’s Madame Carter to you,” Bethan piped in quickly. Bethan’s eyes glided over the Head Healer badge that hung on Adison’s medical cloak before turning around. Adison waved a hand at her, almost like a dog Bethan turned on her heels to attend another patient. She looked back down to Felix. “It’s Adison. I’ll send word to Michelle that you’re here and safe.” She didn’t really say he was well. But he was in fact safe. St. Mungos was probably one of the safest places to be. It was a neutral ground. The Healers were not allowed to choose sides. They helped both Deatheaters and Order Members, they helped regular witches and wizards and the Minister of Magic himself. The honey orbs carefully took in the files contents before sliding it back into it’s holder. Adison’s head picked up when his vitals started beeping. She walked back towards his side, she slid the purple pen back over her ear. Her eyes meeting the IV bag that was slowly dropping into his wrist. She picked pulled gloves back onto her hands, opening a small bottom drawer on a curio taking out a syringe. She opened the top of the IV. She inserted the syringe into it’s placing and began administering it. “That should help the chest pains,” Adison quickly replied. She heard his voice, to be brutally honest he didn’t sound good at all. He certainly wasn’t the boy she remembered. He was older and should have matured a bit but still it was hard to change impressions of people. “Well Mr. Warden,” She began. “It’s quite evident that you were force fed a very dangerous potion. Marsberry to be exact.” Adison quickly pulled the pen from her hair again, she turned leaning against the small curio next to the bed. “It has been tied with another dark elixir. By any chance do you recall the color of the liquid?” Adison could pull the memory from Felix but that was so painful and difficult in his state. In all honesty, she didn’t exactly wish to be pulled into his mind. Adison pulled a small pad of paper from her pocket. The same one that bore the Head Healer medal. She set the pad down, waving her wand once the pen sat up straight, ready to write. “I know color is hardly the thing your thinking about out there, but by chance you saw it. It will make your life a whole lot easier.” This was Adison in a nutshell. All work, hardly any talk. She was plain, and boring. Well that’s what Lestia continued to tell her. Lestia claimed the moment she graduated she handed all of her fun in a vial to Mungos. “Were able to run tests on it, but like I said if you recall a color it will be faster and with less pain,” Adison used her wand to peer into both of his eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes, Adison shook her head. Disguising it as flipping some of the loose blonde curls away from her eyes. She placed the wand over the patch on his wrist. Her eyes met the screen, watching, waiting. She sat for a moment in silence, watching the lines. She was still worried about the Marsberry working it’s way through his bloodstream and attacking the lungs straight on. If she had the color emergency procedure will go into affect right away. Even with the procedure he would be in here for a couple days. “Sorry to report but you’ll be out of the mission field for a bit. I’ll send in the info to the Head right away.” Adison turned about to walk away when she was met with Bethan. “The others have been sedated for the night Adison, none are as harmed as Mr. Warden. So the others and I are going to clock out,” Adison paused looking down the row. Who was meant to be on shift tonight. Adison pulled the small notebook from her pocket flipping it over. ‘Adison’ was written in her own red hand writing. Great. She had the hall tonight. Adison looked back up to Bethan and nodded. “Of course, have a great night,” Adison sighed heavily. She hadn’t slept in her own bed in so long. She was looking forward to it. She watched as the last three Healers made their way out of the doors towards the elevator. The silence was evident from the other patients. Her healers worked quickly and precisely. Adison sighed stopping at the end of Felix’s bed. Her eyes avoiding his. “Looks like I’ll be the one here tonight,” Adison was mostly disappointed in herself. The past two nights they were rather empty and others were on hall duty. Now she was dead tired, on hall duty, with a face from the past. How delightful. Adison could feel the burden of what her eyelids had become on the sagging skin. She pushed the blonde curls back behind her ear. “I’m sorry, I can’t sedate you otherwise I would. The pain medication that’s coursing right now would cease to work and that’s clearly not what you want at this point,” Adison crossed her arms over her chest. She would never have guessed that Felix would end up in her ward, under her car, needing her help. It just showed what could happen these days. She smiled softly watching him for a moment. Well at least if he figured out the color she could start testing. If not she could start the other simple tests that would take hours. Well, she did have hours to kill. i don’t believe that anybody - - - - - - feels the way i do about you now
, Felix hadn’t even registered the presence of another woman until he heard her speak, but he didn’t see much of a reason to pay too much attention to her now either. Hearing Adison say that she liked him better sedated, he simply arched his eyebrows for a second. He hadn’t even said anything rude! Well, he might have gotten her name wrong, but what could she expect? He’d just woke up from a near coma after having been assaulted and force fed poison by dark wizards, so remembering the name of a girl he’d hardly even talked to in his life was more than he felt was reasonable to expect of him right now. That was probably a silly thought, though. Why would a healer be offended that he didn’t know her name? He was probably giving himself way too much credit again. He’d been popular at Hogwarts, yes, but not everyone was going to worship the ground he walked on for the rest of his life because of that. If anyone had told him that eight years ago, he probably wouldn’t have cared, but even he had matured since he was seventeen. Well, at least the Carter part had been right. His eyes followed the other woman’s gaze to the badge on Adison’s cloak, and a very faint crooked smile appeared on his lips. Head healer. His memory hadn’t failed him completely, then – this was indeed the woman whose photo had been in the Prophet. At the mention of his younger sister, though, the smile faded. Michelle would never let him hear the end of this. If he was really lucky, she’d tell their parents as well, and they’d start bombarding him with letters telling him to quit and get a safe, normal job. Normal, in their eyes, would always equal muggle. They weren’t opposed to the wizarding world and had always been supportive, which he was grateful for as he’d heard of parents who practically disowned their children when they found out they were magical, but sometimes, it was difficult to shake the feeling that they’d rather have both him and Michelle come home and work safe nine-to-five office jobs. That wasn’t something Felix could do, though. His mind was set on helping in the fight against dark witches and wizards, and as a member of the Order, he had vowed to stay and fight for as long as he had to. The time to withdraw was certainly not now, with the Dark Lord gaining followers like never before. The sting of the syringe that was suddenly inserted into his arm was uncomfortable as he’d been unprepared for it, and it momentarily took him back to all those hated doctor’s appointments in his childhood. He’d never been fond of hospitals. He was a whole lot older now, though, and remained calm, realizing that if a syringe was being set by professional hospital staff, it was in order to help him. ”Thanks,” he said, but couldn’t quite disguise the sarcastic undertone in his voice. It was hard to sound honestly grateful for anything in a situation like the one he found himself in, even though he was. It was his own fault he was here, in a way. That someone had had time to send up that red light was almost more luck than he deserved. He should not have pushed himself and the rest of the aurors to continue on when they realized they were underpowered, but he had, and now, they were all injured. He assumed that was the case, anyway. It seemed highly unlikely that he would be in such a bad state and the rest of them could somehow have escaped completely unscathed. He was force fed a dangerous potion. Well, he remembered that much. Being told it was Marsberry didn’t really tell him a whole lot, though. Potions had never been his strongest subject. He had received an E only barely and had worked a hell of a lot to achieve it, since it was required to enter auror training, but he could hardly remember any of it all these years later. It seemed amazing to him that anyone would choose to work with potions and elixirs – but right now, he was certainly glad someone had. The question about the color of the liquid had him stumped for a moment, though, and his eyes narrowed slightly as he tried to concentrate and think back. He had been in a very bad state already when the potion – or potions? – was fed to him, and color had been the last thing on his mind. He had to have seen it, though, even though the memories were hazy and most of the details escaped him. This was important, though, he told himself. The healer was asking, so it had to be important. Thinking back, he closed his eyes and tried to remember every detail his weary mind could conjure up. The one who had administered the potion had been a witch, the witch they were hunting. She had been wearing dark robes, brown, tattered and unattractive. There had been others in the room with her as well, all looking weathered, like they hadn’t had a good bath or shower in months. The room had been dimly lit, but it wasn’t too dark to register colors or he wouldn’t have known the witch was wearing brown. The bottle in her hand… Bloody hell, what color had it been? Okay, method of elimination. It had certainly not been yellow or orange. He didn’t think it had been red either, and not black, white or grey. Opening his eyes again, he was confused for a second. He hadn’t noticed Adison getting up, but now, she was suddenly by the end of his bed instead. ”Looks like I’ll be the one here tonight.” Okay, so that hadn’t been her plan, obviously. ”Sorry?” he said, but didn’t really mean it. Then she said something about sedatives not being an option right now. ”Too bad. I’ll be fine, though.” He paused for a second, then added, ”Purple. The elixir was purple.” tag: adison <3 word count: 1018 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: not that great a post, sorry. ♥

i don’t believe that anybody - - - - - - feels the way i do about you now
, Felix hadn’t expected her to respond to his not-so-serious apology with, well, another apology. He didn’t know anything at all about being a healer, but he suspected having people’s lives in your hands could make just about anyone stressed. Unless the someone in question was a deranged, homicidal lunatic, of course, and he had encountered more than enough of those for the time being. There were probably some of those in St. Mungo’s tonight as well, either as a patient or an infiltrator among the staff, but the chances of him encountering them weren’t really that high. In his experience, infiltrators were more likely to try the Spell Damage floor, and the patients… well, they were patients, and unlikely to try anything funny as long as they were being healed. He didn’t like thinking about the possibility at all, though, and usually wouldn’t. His recent encounter with those dark witches and wizards had made him more paranoid than usual. It wasn’t going to last, though. A good night’s sleep should get him right back to himself. Well, a good night’s sleep and a high amount of sedatives and pain medication, anyway, now that she brought it up. He turned slightly to get a look at the monitor, and responded with a nod. At least he had a way to keep track, then. He could clearly hear the surprise in Adison’s voice as he told her the color of the potion, and was unable to resist the temptation to smirk for just a brief second. He wasn’t really sure why that was his reaction. Maybe it was because it meant his mind was working better now, or maybe he just liked impressing people. It didn’t really matter much. What mattered was that this might somehow have helped this healer, and in turn helped him since it would obviously be easier to figure out what was wrong with him if she knew what he’d consumed. Since she wasn’t telling him what it was even though she made it clear that she knew, though, he grew just a bit suspicious. He was about to ask when he was struck by another quick jab of pain. It wasn’t as bad as the last one had been, but still enough to distract him – mostly because he tried harder not to let it show. That was another silly ego thing, of course, but he couldn’t help not wanting to look like a weakling in front of this woman. Okay, so she’d probably seen worse, but still. She hadn’t seen him worse. ”Is the pain easing at all?” He looked strangely at her for a moment, as he was still in a lot of pain. Then he realized that this pain was actually a lot less bad than it had been just a few minutes ago, and his expression changed. ”Yes, it is, actually,” he replied, nodding faintly. It was still painful, of course, but he was dealing with it. Even just knowing that he was back somewhere safe in the presence of someone capable of helping him made the pain a little more bearable somehow, because he knew it was going to get better. It was still excruciating, though – not so much the pain as knowing that he’d messed up, that the reason he was practically chained to this bed and his partners were injured was that they’d made perfectly avoidable mistakes. Depending on how long he was stuck here for, that guilt would probably get worse, and if he knew himself as well as he thought, it would also lead to him being even more determined to be the best next time, making him even more cocky and prone to bad decision-making. Also, that self-insight would probably be gone by morning, making it entirely useless in practice. At the mention of Michelle, though, he actually smiled. ”Yeah, she’s my baby sister. I have to look out for her, you know?” In fact, Michelle and their oldest sister’s five year old daughter were probably the most important people in his life right now, and the best reason for him to continue fighting dark forces even though it was dangerous. They were muggleborn, and if the infamous Dark Lord ever came to power, they’d be in for a world of trouble. That was something he couldn’t let happen without a fight. He could probably ramble on about that forever most days, but right now, the words just weren’t coming out because of the pain in his throat. He would definitely have loved to make some lewd remark when she asked him to lift up his shirt as wells, but refrained from doing so, both because of the thought of Michelle and the pain. As much as he liked talking, he was going to have to keep it to a minimum tonight. So really, it was just as well that Adison was doing most of the talking. ”Bloody hell,” he just had to mutter under his breath as the cotton swab was placed onto the blister. That wasn’t just a little cold. He was going to deal with it, though – anything else, he reminded himself, would be embarrassing. ”Comes with the job, that,” he replied, smiling faintly as she heard him say his first name again. In a way, her presence was relaxing. Was that a charm healers used or something? He didn’t think so, because he’d certainly met healers he didn’t feel particularly comfortable around. So it was probably just her, then, but honestly, he didn’t want that hypothesis tested. He kept his eyes on his hands as she once again dipped the cotton swab and placed it on that disgusting blister, completely fascinated by how calm and collected she was. Most twenty-three year old healers he encountered still acted at least the tiniest bit insecure, but Adison seemed to be in complete control. No wonder she had become head healer, even at such a young age. If someone was made head auror at twenty-three, he was pretty sure every single one of the older aurors would look at him or her with contempt instead of being even remotely respectful. It would be odd if Adison didn’t deal with anything like that – so that, too, was worth commending her for. tag: adison <3 word count: 1043 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: lalala. ♥

i don’t believe that anybody - - - - - - feels the way i do about you now
, Felix just smiled as she apologized again, trying to resist the temptation to point out just how right she was. Among all the things he’d been through in his years as an auror, this would definitely be one of the three worst. In fact, it might even be the worst, considering that he’d never actually been kidnapped by dark wizards before. That was definitely not an experience he ever wanted to repeat. It was the kind of horror story the older aurors would tell during briefings when trying to find out how easy to scare the new recruits were, and usually, they succeeded in making at least a few of them feel sick to their stomachs in the process. He had been one of those recruits who had just kind of smiled at those stories, silently thinking that nothing like that could ever really happen – and if it did, it definitely wouldn’t be to him. How wrong he had been, with his typical Gryffindor arrogance and foolhardiness, barging directly into danger like some kind of idiot. When he was getting old and his hair was turning grey, he’d be sure to tell the younger aurors all about this as well, warning them about all the stupid things he’d done. Then they’d go on and do their own thing, disregarding his advice, just like he had with the ones who had warned him. As Adison started talking about her own sister, he smiled, interested to hear. There were a lot of people who weren’t very close to their siblings and probably wouldn’t take care of them the way he (and Adison, apparently) did, but he wouldn’t have it any other way with Michelle. They had parents who loved and supported them, absolutely, but they were just incapable of fully understanding magic. Well, to the degree that anyone could fully understand magic. It wasn’t really one of those things that were meant to be understood. ”I understand that,” he said, remembering how it had felt to send Michelle off to Hogwarts after he had graduated himself. The year before, she had been attacked by some bloody pureblood supremacist, so of course he hadn’t wanted to leave her alone there. Still, he saw her as often as he could and they had sent each other letters almost every week, so in a way, those years had brought them even closer. Then Adison mentioned a woman and her son, and he nodded. It didn’t surprise him that someone like Adison liked taking care of others. Hufflepuffs tended to do that, and obviously even more so if they decided to become healers and devote their lives to making other people’s lives better. As much as he liked to think they were, his own reasons for being an auror weren’t quite that selfless. It was to protect the wizarding world, yes, but also because he had, back when he was seventeen, decided it sounded really cool, and that had been justification enough. Very courageous and noble, that. It wasn’t until that point that he noticed something about her fingers. There were blisters developing there as well. His eyebrows furrowed and he watched her as it dawned on him just how dangerous this poison in his system really might be. It even affected the people who touched it? Damn, he was lucky to be alive. As soon as he got better, he’d have to remember to find the person who sent up that red flash and buy them a Firewhiskey or ten. It definitely felt like it was going to be a while until he got better, though, so he’d have to hold on to that thought. ”Are you alright?” he asked, watching the towel she held. Comes with the job. He supposed it did, but it didn’t seem fair that healers should be dealing with pain for the patients they were treating. Still, he was sure Adison knew what she was doing, so if she was somehow draining poison out of him then, well, he would simply accept that there wasn’t a better way to deal with it. And he wasn’t about to say she didn’t need to do that to herself either, because in all honesty, yes, he was selfish enough to want to save his own life, and she had dealt with this kind of thing before. Right? Right. Of course she had. She was a professional healer and head of the floor. Merlin, how many times would he have to tell himself that before it dawned on him? Being told he had to sit up instantly caused a faint feeling of dread to well up in him. This hurt enough as it did, and he didn’t even want to think about how much it would hurt to actually move large groups of muscles in his body. So far, he hadn’t done anything but move his head and his hands, and even that only very gently. She said it was going to feel a lot better, though, and he believed her. He’d believe just about anything she said, really. ”Okay, if you say so,” he replied, unable to hide his skepticism as she took his hand. He was glad the chair was doing most of the moving for him, though. It still hurt like crazy, yes, but at least he didn’t have to make much of an effort or really do anything. He hardly even noticed the towel being placed on his chest, though, as he was too busy focusing on a spot on the ceiling just to keep himself occupied. Why did being healed always have to hurt so much? Wow, he thought to himself, that sounded pathetic. He just ought to stick with that he should just be glad he was getting better at all. Having a bottle of some weird blue liquid placed towards his lips didn’t exactly make him feel more comfortable. It reminded him a little too much of how he had gotten this poison into his body in the first place. Trying to focus on just breathing, he listened as she counted, then did swallowed once she reached three before he had time to think it over. Bloody hell, bloody hell, hell, hell, hell. That was the extent of his thoughts as the potion burned its way through his throat – and burn was a pretty accurate description of the sensation. She certainly hadn’t been exaggerating when she compared it to pouring sea salt onto an open wound or whatever it was she had said. Either way, he was pretty sure this felt worse than that. Leaning his head back so as to not try to gulp up the elixir, his fists clenched once again. Right about now, being sedated was starting to sound like the best idea he’d ever heard. tag: adison <3 word count: 1132 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: i love them. way too much. <3

i don’t believe that anybody - - - - - - feels the way i do about you now
, The pain in his throat felt like it was going to burn right through his skin. He honestly could not remember the dark potion itself hurting like this. It probably had, but it was difficult to compare anything objectively right now. It was difficult to think properly at all, really, as every thought was cut off by a jab of pain before the thought even fully formed in his mind. He didn’t even care if he looked pathetic right now – in fact, he didn’t care about anything much except silently praying for this excruciating pain to pass. He heard Adison say his name and wanted to reply, but no sound came out and he couldn’t quite muster a nod either. He felt his heart pounding like never before in his chest, feeling as though it was about to break through and pop out onto the floor. That certainly would have been a sight, but even though a part of his brain told him that was humorous, the idea frightened him more than anything right now. He had this uncontrollable urge to scream as well, but again, there was no sound and his mouth wouldn’t even open properly. There were no words to adequately describe the pain, all the things that went on in his body during those moments. It was simply pain. He had no idea how long he was in that state, but if anyone had asked him later, he could have sworn it was hours. In reality, of course, it passed in a matter of minutes, but they were the most painful minutes he could clearly remember going through. Merlin, some sedatives would have felt good right about there. When the pain started to fade, however, it faded fast, and he soon realized that Adison had been absolutely right – it did in fact feel about ten times better than it had. He looked up at her, forcing a weak smile. ”That wasn’t so bad,” he said, a joking tone in his voice. It had been absolutely awful. Still, he noticed that speaking was easier now and didn’t hurt nearly as much. Ruefully, he thought of how his colleagues would have loved to have him just shut up for a few moments. There’d probably be quite a few jokes about feeding him with dark elixirs more often when he came back to work. When would that be, though? That question hadn’t even occurred to him earlier, but suddenly, he found himself concerned with how long his recovery would take and, more importantly, if he would fully recover. If he didn’t get back to as good as he was, he would be absolutely devastated. No, it was better not to worry about that. It would just be causing him an unnecessary load of concern. He looked warily at the syringe for a moment, worried that some other insanely painful chemical would be inserted into his system as part of this cure. She didn’t even insert it, though, which was a relief. Then, he watched her make her way around his bed and pick up his file, obviously writing something or other. Watching healers write stuff in his files was always nerve-wracking, mostly because they never seemed to want to share what it was they were jotting down. He was certainly glad he didn’t have her job, though – he wouldn’t have had the patience to deal with inquisitive patients, and certainly not if he was responsible for their well-being. Of course, his own line of work was important for the well-being of a lot of people as well, but not as directly. He didn’t usually meet the people who had been injured or frightened by the people he was sent to track down, and thus he never felt personally responsible for any of them. Plus, if a dark witch or wizard had wronged someone he was close to, he would usually not be on the case at all out of fear that it would make him act irrationally. The same applied to all aurors, of course, and although many disapproved because those were the cases they wanted to be on, there was a pretty good logic behind it. He simply looked at Adison as the towel was placed on his forehead, and for a moment, his eyes met hers. Those beautiful honey brown eyes looked straight at him, and he found himself wondering how he could have managed to overlook this girl during his Hogwarts years. She was two years younger and a Hufflepuff, yes, but he had known people who were younger and in different houses. Not a lot of Hufflepuffs, though, since so many of them tended to keep to themselves. He only really knew the ones on the Quidditch team, come to think of it, and although he got along with them, they had never stuck out quite as much as the other house teams. Were all Hufflepuffs like that, these kind of background types? They were loyal and patient, of course, so maybe more of them simply realized that they didn’t have to be the center of attention all the time. Still, this woman was gorgeous, and she had probably not been that different back then. His friend wouldn’t have recognized her photo in the Prophet if she had looked completely different. So maybe he had just been an idiot, then. Actually, he was pretty sure that was the case. He certainly hadn’t been the most mature person when he was seventeen. ”Never been better,” he replied, smiling crookedly up at her. ”Not within the last two minutes, anyway.” He was relieved to hear her say that it was recovering. He could feel that by himself, since he wasn’t completely stupid, but it still helped to hear it from a healer. After a few seconds, she asked him about his job, making a crack at how he had been the cocky Gryffindor captain. That was true, and he had enough self-insight to realize that. ”What are you talking about?” he said jokingly – wow, talking really was a whole lot easier now – then added, ”I’ve never been cocky.” His expression soon grew more serious, though, and his eyebrows furrowed very slightly. ”Michelle was attacked with dark magic at the start of her second year for being muggleborn. Made me realize how important fighting dark wizards is, I guess.” He didn’t feel the need to mention the other part of his reason for becoming an auror. After all, the cool factor hadn’t been a part of it for a very long time. tag: adison <3 word count: 1093 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: <3 my replies might be a bit slow for the next two days, but i'll do my best because i'm completely and utterly obsessed.

, In a way, Felix didn’t mind Adison taking care of him. Then again, that might not be so strange, considering that she was a beautiful woman currently devoting all her time to him. What sensible heterosexual man could be opposed to that? Okay, so it was still a bit weird to be lying helplessly on a hospital bed, but it could have been worse. Some sweaty, elderly man could be the one at work tonight. Depending on how long he had to stay here, he’d probably encounter that as well. Not a particularly pleasant thought, though, so it was better to focus on the here and now. Well, the here and now if he managed to disregard the lingering pain in his throat and chest, but even that was getting better, so he really couldn’t complain. What was that he had been thinking about not approving of guys thinking like this about Michelle only a few moments ago? Never mind that. This was different. Maybe not really that different, except for Adison being twenty-three and Michelle being nineteen and his sister and therefore very different, but it was enough to not feel like it was disrespectful to enjoy Adison’s company. After all, it wasn’t like he was thinking of anything inappropriate. He just liked her. As a person. A very pretty person. He actually chuckled slightly as she teased him. That hurt, though, so he decided not to laugh too much for a while. She thought he was attractive, though – the rest of what she had said wasn’t really that significant to him. Okay, now he was being cocky again. Not out loud, though, so that had to be an improvement from the way he had been. Anyway, why should he care that she had thought of him as cocky? Everyone had. It had been a part of his image, being the arrogant, brash Gryffindor captain girls wanted to be with and boys wanted to be. He wasn’t technically sure if that was the way it had been, as he’d been disliked by quite a few people as well, but still, his image had at least been acting like he was some kind of superhero. And with some, that had worked. He had definitely had his share of girlfriends over the years. A player? Yes, he couldn’t deny that he had been in his teens. He had shaped up in a lot of ways since starting his auror training, though, and hadn’t actually had a girlfriend in quite a while because he focused on his job. That was something very few could have foreseen the seventeen year old Felix Warden ever doing. ”I guess you’re right,” he replied. ”I’ve been told I look better when not just having been assaulted by a dark witch, though.” It was easier to talk casually about it now that most of the pain had subsided and he was no longer in any immediate danger. The event would stick in his mind for a very long time, there was no doubt of that, but now, there was actually some hope building up in him that he might be able to learn from it. Again, though, he probably would not. At the end of the day, he couldn’t be anyone but himself, slow to learn from his mistakes and a little too proud. Silently, he wondered if it was even possible to change that. Being aware of his flaws had to be one of the first steps to self-improvement, but he wasn’t the type to spend countless hours slaving over self-help books when he could be out doing something productive like fighting the rise of the Death Eaters. He was a man of action, not one for waiting and thinking through all possible solutions before jumping into something. Obviously. He wouldn’t have been Quidditch captain or an auror if he had been any different. ”That’s very noble of you.” He smiled at her. Of course it sounded very noble, and in a way, he was glad she agreed. His expression grew more serious as she continued talking, though, and he nodded. It had taken him a lot of willpower to not instantly track down whoever was responsible and hexing them to the moon and back, but the professors had very explicitly warned him against doing so. Naturally, he had hated them for that, but in retrospect, he was grateful as he would only have gotten himself into trouble as well. It was sometimes easy for him to forget when thinking about Michelle that he, too, was a muggleborn and was therefore just as likely a target as she was, especially if he actively sought out those who wanted to harm them. ”It is a good reason,” he replied, looking away from Adison for a moment. ”I love her. I can’t deal with anyone hurting her. Or anyone else I care about.” That was probably the most brutally honest thing he had said so far tonight. Michelle found his protectiveness embarrassing sometimes, and maybe it sounded a bit silly, this all-powerful protective urge he felt for sister and the rest of his family – but it was a part of him that he didn’t feel the need to hide. He looked back at the blonde and watched her close her eyes, and then he smiled for a second. There was something almost angelic about her in that instant. Somehow, though, he was even more captivated by her when she opened her eyes and looked at him again, even though she was once again just talking about his wounds. Just talking about his wounds? What an odd thing to think. He was allowed to think odd things in his current state, though. The mention of Noelle caused him to nod pensively, and he wondered how he would have reacted had Michelle wanted to be an auror. He was pretty sure he wouldn’t have approved. It was fine for him to go out and risk his life every day, but he couldn’t let his baby sister do something like that. ”No, it’s not exactly a safe job,” he replied. Then, he asked, ”How old is she now? Your sister, I mean.” tag: adison <3 word count: 1031 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: <3

, Felix noticed her rolling her eyes, and shook his head slightly as she imitated him. He could handle being teased, that wasn’t a problem for him at all, not now or at any other time. It was tempting to argue with her when she said she was just a healer, since he was under the impression that being a healer was one of the most important professions in the world, but he didn’t. There wasn’t a way he could respond to that without letting on that he thought she was gorgeous, and he wasn’t sure she’d appreciate that kind of remark. He did when they came from her, of course, but that didn’t mean it was a mutual thing. Maybe it was just something she did to help him relax. After all, what were the chances that someone like her might be single, not to mention interested in one of her patients? He sincerely doubted that. It seemed far more likely that the reason she had been annoyed to have him hear meant that she would be unable to go home to her boyfriend or husband, actually. On the other hand, it seemed odd that they would have had this conversation about protecting their loved ones without a significant other being mentioned, so maybe there wasn’t anyone. That thought made him strangely happy. He wasn’t going to go asking her out on the spot either, though – that would be just a little ridiculous. It was hard to miss the sadness in her eyes, and he couldn’t help but wonder what caused it. Fortunately, it was explained to him only moments later. ”You’re right,” he said. ”I wish there was a way to make it easier, though.” Merlin, he understood everything she was saying so well, and he agreed with it as well. If he could take away all Michelle’s pain somehow, or their little niece Helen’s, he would do anything to achieve it. Still, he supposed Adison was right. People needed to fail to learn. He knew that as well as anyone. Had he simply breezed through life thus far, he could see himself being just as arrogant as many of those spoiled pureblood Slytherins. Never as cruel as some of them, though. He could never be cruel enough to attack an innocent twelve year old girl. That was seven years ago now, and the thought still caused anger to well up in him every time. It wasn’t their fault that their parents were muggles, that they hadn’t grown up surrounded by all these amazing magical things. He wouldn’t change being a wizard born to muggles for anything in the world, though – it was such a huge part of who he was, the underlying basis for almost all the decisions he had made in his life from excelling at a magical sport to devoting his life to fighting dark magic. He suspected it was a lot of the reason Michelle chose to be a healer, too – the basis for the desire to help people no matter their background. He smiled again as she talked about his relationship with Michelle. ”Really?” he said, slightly amused – yet silently grateful to his sister. It was good to hear that she was proud of him, too, because he certainly was proud of her. ”I’ll have to remind her of that the next time she complains about me talking about her too much.” Just as he reached the end of his sentence, he noticed her yawning and soon did the same. It was odd, how contagious a yawn could be. What it really did, though, was make him realize that beyond it being night, he had no idea what time it was. Being unconscious really messed with a guy’s internal clock. Since she was yawning, though, it was probably later than he had initially assumed. Or maybe she just hadn’t gotten enough sleep lately, which would also possibly explain her initial rudeness. Suddenly, he felt bad for keeping her up. Staying awake all night to take care of a patient couldn’t be that interesting. At least as an auror, he was always on the move when going after someone at night and always had to be prepared for an attack. He supposed healers would have to be on guard too, though, in case suddenly got worse again or experienced unexpected symptoms. Anyway, it was very different from being an auror, and he was pretty sure he wouldn’t have the patience for it. ”Seventeen, huh? I can see why that’s scary.” At least it had been for him, what with the sudden realization that he would have to make actual choices with actual consequences that would affect the rest of his life. He had never really had a plan before then. Professional Quidditch had been an option, of course, and it had seemed like a pretty good option for a while as well, but then he had started thinking about becoming an auror. Trying to convince his parents that it was a good idea had definitely been an interesting experience. Naturally, they had been very worried to hear that he wanted to spend the rest of his life hunting dangerous dark witches and wizards, and for a while, he was pretty sure they had suspected he was losing his mind. It probably didn’t help much that they knew better than anyone just how reckless and prone to getting into trouble he could be, and in retrospect, he could completely understand their concern. At the time, though, he had thought they were being annoyingly overprotective and hadn’t been able to understand why they couldn’t just support him. He had probably been a bit of a jerk to them then, and while he regretted that, he was glad he had stuck by his decision. It had probably been difficult for them, though, and he could imagine it being difficult for Adison. ”I’m sure she’ll be fine. And she’s lucky, with you looking out for her.”He shuddered slightly as she mentioned returning to the treatment, but nodded. ”Yeah, why not?” he replied, a crooked smile visible on his face again. He didn’t particularly want to, but it was a necessary evil, so he was going to deal with it. It was just a bit of cold, after all, and compared to the pain he’d just been through, this was just mildly uncomfortable – and not even for more than a second or two. What kind of auror would he be if he couldn’t even handle that? A very bad one, at any rate, since he’d presumably have to flee at even the slightest hint of trouble, and that wasn’t like him at all. On the contrary; he usually decided fleeing might be a good idea way too late. That was something he should work on rectifying, but again, spending lots of time on self-improvement was not his cup of tea. tag: adison <3 word count: 1151 lyrics: wonderwall - oasis notes: fun fact - i yawned twice as i was writing about yawning being contagious and i'm not even tired. also, i love them toooo. <3
