Regulus had spent the better part of his morning staring at the spot on his arm where the Dark Mark would soon be etched into his skin forever. And Regulus was quite certain it would be forever. He didn’t think a service to the Dark Lord was something one could get out off on a whim. Was he making the right decision? It was soon, he knew. Bellatrix had dropped hints, his parents had all but fawned over him when he showed an interest in joining the Dark Lord. Well, an interest was putting it mildly. Regulus knew of him, naturally. He was responsible for creating the chaos that was slowly enveloping the Wizarding World now. Getting rid of Mudbloods and anyone else that believed they had a place in the magical world. The young man did support the Dark Lord, but was he ready to be inducted into his service? Truth was, Regulus could not see how him getting the Dark Mark while he was still in Hogwarts helped the cause. A spy for the Dark Lord within the walls of Hogwarts? Try to convert more sceptics into believers? He would have better success if there weren’t as many people opposing Voldemort.
Walking out of the Great Hall, Regulus Black dusted off his school robes before taking out his timetable for the day. He had a couple of free periods before mid morning Potions. Professor Slughorn was going to be ever so pleased to see him. Maybe at the next meeting of the Slug club, he would ask around, see if there were any neutral people who he could convert. He never understood neutrality. It was either this or that for Regulus. Of course, that was after a whole lot of deliberation on his part. But once he made his decision, he stuck with it. For the most part. Indecision wasn’t tolerated much in his family. Actually, not much was tolerated. Getting into Gryffindor was most certainly not tolerated.
Regulus sat himself down on one of the benches along the hallway, continuing to study his timetable. Charms was not his strong suit, but all he needed to do was practise. Or just use that as an excuse to approach that stunning blonde Ravenclaw he’d noticed towards the end of last year. Dorcas Meadowes, he believed was her name? She had a bit of a reputation for being an overachiever, but well, that was part of the Ravenclaw traits wasn’t it? tagged; open. words; 411 outfit; school uniform lyrics; demolition lovers by mcr notes; ramble ramble ramble

〈 BLIND TO EVERY EYE SHE MEETS 〉 ﴾ DO YOU THINK YOU'll BE THE GUY ﴿ who will make the queen of the angels weep? There were a number of things that she could have been doing at the time, eating some sort of snack from the Great Hall, or picking up a new book from the Library but for whatever reason Dorcas found herself wandering the halls. Maybe it was because she had seen her runt of a cat bolt out the Ravenclaw dorm room shortly before she left, and so the sense of needing to find the calico cat was something that was currently weighing down on her. Besides, Dorcas hardly wanted the small animal to be wandering about the courtyard when the weather was as poor as it was.
Looking to the ground the female made sure to watch out for any passing feet, or the small paws of the cat that she found herself searching for. “Come on now…You couldn’t have gotten that far off from me…” then again, as she came to remind herself, it was completely possible for the cat to slip through people much easier than it was for her. Plus he probably knew all the corners and crawl spaces of Hogwarts and could have very easily slipped right through one of them when Dorcas had been apologizing for bumping into someone else.
Sighing she quickly pushed passed a few of the people so she could stand to the side, and leaned back against the cold stonewall. If this darned cat was anywhere around here at least from this side she’d be able to pick up on him a bit quicker. Plus with this Dorcas didn’t need to worry about bumping into someone else, or someone who would chose to be rather unpleasant towards her, she’d already run into someone like that and it certainly wasn’t this blondes idea of a good time.
Mudblood this, Mudblood that. It seemed to be one of the few words most of the dimmer witted people of Slytherin seemed to know, along with blood traitors, or anyone who often fancied someone who wasn’t up to their standards. Or what’s his buckets name that everyone seemed to be so unnerved about these days, Dorcas knew that she didn’t do the best job of keeping up with who was the hottest boy on campus, or who the sluttiest girl was, but she knew well enough from the whispers around the school that something was going on.
“Ah-ha!” snapping from her thoughts Dorcas pushed herself from the wall and back into the crowd, “There you are!” muttering to herself she moved quickly only to bump into someone as she went forward for the calico cat. The cat seemed to look back to his owner snicker before bolting between the different legs of people once more, leaving Dorcas with a faint pink color coming to her cheeks as she straightened back up.
“Sorry, sorry. Are you alright? I probably should have thought before suddenly lunging forward like that…” running a hand through the blonde hair she looked to the person she had bumped into.

The problem was, Regulus had never heard of her. Being a Black, as his parents believed, made them almost like royalty. And if the Black family hadn’t heard of a family, they probably were not worth knowing at all. Regulus could not say he had heard of the Meadowes family. And that was a point that should steer him clear away from the older girl. Rebelling was something Sirius did. Not him. His parents needed him. They were pinning all their hopes on him. Usually the older child got all that responsibility and the younger child got compared but nope, not for Regulus. He had the very opposite of that. The male shook his head, wondering why he was entertaining himself with such thoughts. Surely there were better things he could do than to sit here and mope. Right.
Getting himself up from the bench, Regulus joined the trail of students. Back to his common room then. Hopefully there was someone who would be talking about something other than Mudbloods and blood traitors. They always made a point to look over at Regulus when blood traitors were mentioned. Having Sirius as a brother made things very difficult. He had to try doubly hard to prove he wasn’t going to way Sirius was. And here he was, thinking about his brother again. If only he could erase the memories of him just like how his mother blasted the picture off the family tapestry. And yes, Regulus was present when his enraged mother did that.
Ah, his mother. That brought on a whole other line of thoughts. Thoughts that were never continued due to someone bumping into him. Regulus might have berated the person if he was around some other Slytherins, but he wasn’t and he had also taken a look at the person. Blonde hair, pretty face… well, she could bump into him anytime she liked. She’s most likely not a pureblood, Black. He told himself. Repeating that fact did not help when she finally stood back up and blushed slightly. “No, no. It’s fine. No harm done.” Regulus said, giving her a half grin. “Did you drop something?” He asked, wondering why someone would leap without looking if someone else was in the way. tagged; open. words; 374 outfit; school uniform lyrics; demolition lovers by mcr notes; ramble ramble ramble

〈 BLIND TO EVERY EYE SHE MEETS 〉 ﴾ DO YOU THINK YOU'll BE THE GUY ﴿ who will make the queen of the angels weep? Ahhh. The question which she knew was coming, it was simply a matter of how she would end up answering it. She was sure that the answer chasing after her cat for the hell of it, would be considered as a rather odd answer, making her an odd person, not that she wasn’t already. But she didn’t need to give this boy that sort of idea…well, anymore than she had already done with her sudden jump into the crowd. “Well…” biting the inside of her cheek for a brief moment Dorcas looked back up towards Regulus and grinned a bit, “I was going after my cat...Actually…”
There, she had said it, let the cat out of the bag so to speak, at least it was better then taking forever to answer a simple question such as that. Or at least, this was what Dorcas had come to think when it came to questions in general, the sooner answered the better. “I know, it sounds…odd…to say the least, but I didn’t want him wandering outside in this kind of weather, and I suppose like most cats he managed to escape despite my desire for him to remain inside.”
Running a hand through that blonde hair once more Dorcas took a step back to give the two of them a bit of space and used this to briefly scan over the person she had bumped into. From the robes she could tell that he was someone who was from the house of Slytherin, silently grateful for the fact that he hadn’t suddenly started shouting mudblood or something like that, she smiled softly to herself. From what she could tell after her brief look up and down he had nice features, and the robes he wore were something which suited him well enough, though Dorcas found herself assuming that he was probably a year or so younger than him.
“Sorry…I don’t think I know your name.”
Blinking to herself as she realized the lack of introduction, something which had been drilled into her since she was a young girl she held her hand out towards him. “I’m Dorcas Meadowes,” Now, the real question Dorcas wanted to know the answer to was whether or not the Slytherin would end up shaking her hand, in her past experiences most of them ended up spitting, or roughly pushing past her and muttering something. But seeing as how he had yet to do something like that, she was assuming that he probably wouldn’t be doing that.

She seemed to be considering how to answer his question, which led Regulus to think that she was considering lying. Or making something up. Surely she wasn’t trying to lie to him? Then again, why shouldn’t she? If it was something embarrassing… Regulus stopped his mind from thinking way too much into this. It was a simple enough question and if she didn’t want to answer, so be it. His impending induction into the Death Eaters was affecting him more than he thought. He tilted his head slightly when she started speaking, before she told him that she was chasing her cat.
Regulus raised his eyebrows slightly. In his opinion, cats were smart. Then again, he didn’t own a cat. The Black family weren’t much of a pet family. “Your cat?” He repeated. He had the sense not to look around for the cat, now that he knew what she was looking for. He doubted the cat would remain here if it knew its owner was determined to keep it inside. Not to mention that there were still people walking past them. Regulus must have blocked someone’s path, but no one was silly enough to shove him aside or yell. “Knew there was a reason why Mother didn’t like animals.” He neglected to add that his mother didn’t like most things and most certainly not him talking to someone whose heritage he didn’t know.
When she stepped back, Regulus followed suit, so as not to block anyone’s path. He tried to will himself to stop thinking about how gorgeous she was, because quite simply, there was just no room for romance in his somewhat complicated life right now. But then she mentioned that she had no idea what his name was. Regulus let out a soft chuckle. “Are you serious?” He asked, not incredulously as one of his female cousins might have done, but with a slightly surprised tone. Who didn’t know the Black family? Merlin, she must be a Mudblood who was so cut off from the social network in Hogwarts. If he could venture a guess, she must have spent the majority of her time here just studying.
I know. He thought in his head, eyes darting about to see if Narcissa was about. He wasn’t as worried about other Purebloods. Narcissa was another issue, considering how she was related to Bellatrix. Regulus looked back to Dorcas. Was she expecting him not to shake her hand? There were certainly going to be consequences if he was caught even being civil to people like her. “Regulus Black.” The Slytherin smiled broadly, sliding his hand into hers. “No, I don’t think I’ll be hexing you any time soon either.” He said. Regulus was going to assume she knew of the Black’s family reputation, even if she didn’t know who he was.

〈 BLIND TO EVERY EYE SHE MEETS 〉 ﴾ DO YOU THINK YOU'll BE THE GUY ﴿ who will make the queen of the angels weep? Even while she had been trying to figure out the proper way to answer his questioned she had studied his features carefully. Picking up on the fact that this person definitely had at least one thing on his mind that weighed him down rather heavily, that sort of grave expression often being seen when deep in thought. Well, she certainly hoped that she hadn't caused any sort of problems for him from breaking him of his thoughts, in order to speak about...well...cats, and how stupid or smart they may in fact be, along with herself as well, considering Dorcas was the one jumping out of places all of the sudden.
Yes, her explanation was something that was well...rather odd to say the least, but at least she could say that she was being rather truthful about it. Plus, what else could someone else say in order to find a reason to suddenly jump in front of people who were moving along with the rest of the crowd? Certainly nothing that Dorcas could think up at the time, plus, she never found lying to be a very good thing. She couldn't help but grin at his comment of his mother, "Well, perhaps she had some sense about them then, they can be rather troublesome creatures." of course, Dorcas found herself thinking that they were also some of the best, in their way of being able to comfort someone without saying a word.
Leaning back against the stone wall once out of the way Dorcas found herself looking over the dark haired male for a second time, this time taking in his features. He had serious eyes, though she could swear with that chuckle that a softness came over them, even if the chuckle had been at her expense for her lack of knowledge. His smile was something that the blond found herself taking an instant liking to, she always thought that if someone had a good smile they were probably at least slightly good, at least kind enough to have a conversation with her, plus they always held that sort of attractive feature to them as well. "Well, I suppose I live up to the Ravenclaw standards of studying...rather than going out and socializing."
When she saw the hand come out and grasp hers she couldn't help but smile once more, see? He definitely was someone who was kind, a Black that was actually having a conversation with someone who was hardly a pureblooded person, and someone who didn't even know his name before hand. The more time she spent with this new person, the more she found points that she liked about him. Or perhaps Dorcas Meadowes was simply to naive for her own good, too trusting of those around her. "Well, its very nice to meet you Regulus Black." shaking hand hand a couple times before allowing her hand to fall back to her side, "And I'm very glad to hear that you won't be hexing me. I hope I'm not keeping you from anything important."

Regulus found himself smiling wryly when Dorcas commented about cats being bothersome creatures. Judging from the way their house elf, Kreacher, was treated when his mother was in a foul mood, Regulus was more than willing to bet that any pet that they had was going to lead a miserable life. At least, those normal types of pets. A creature who liked his mother was definitely hard to find. Even though he tried his best to ensure his mother was proud of him, there were times where Regulus was hard pressed to admit why he even bothered. Add that to all the arguments his parents had when he was younger, Regulus found himself questioning why he was doing this. “Your cat seems to be one of those bothersome ones. Or did you perhaps forget to feed him? Or her?” Regulus asked.
“Yes, I think you do.” He agreed with her. There were statements he could make to mock her, really. The right thing here was to ridicule her, make her feel bad for being a Mudblood, ensure she knew his name and wouldn’t be forgetting it any time soon by hexing her and then leaving. Regulus’s lips twitched a little at the thought of hexing her. Or rather, someone else throwing a curse at her. He hoped she hadn’t been hexed before. It wasn’t very pleasant. Regulus would know about that.
The Slytherin was finding himself a little bit at a loss for words. A part of his mind was telling him to ridicule her, to start doing so after being so nice while the other part was just saying, go with it. Be nice and make a friend who wasn’t all about the purity of blood. “You’re a lucky lady, then.” Regulus pointed out. “Not only will I not hex you, I’ll spend some time with you since I’ve got absolutely nothing on.” Yes, Regulus was digging a hole and throwing himself in it by saying that. “Need some help finding your cat?” He volunteered his services.
