”I’m not a child anymore.” Bellatrix hated those words, every single time she heard them. She was the oldest sister, four years older than Narcissa, and naturally, a lot of her opinions on the two younger Black sisters were based on childhood memories, and in most of those memories, Narcissa was just a little girl. Therefore, in Bella’s mind, Cissa would always be that little fair-haired, angel-faced girl she’d always been. And Lucius had kissed that girl, played games with her, disrespected her. Unacceptable. The matter of Narcissa being grown up or not was, well, not really a topic of discussion at all. Bella absolutely refused to believe she was (fifteen was not grown up, for Merlin’s sake), but she wasn’t going to argue simply because the important thing was that young Mister Malfoy had to pay.
She was not oblivious to the annoyance in Narcissa’s tone, however, and she sat up straight in her chair again. ”I’m reminded of my betrothal to Rodolphus Lestrange every single day, Cissy. Unless you actually intend to deal with Malfoy, you should get used to it.” By now, she was quite prepared to get up and leave at any moment. Of course her sister would try to stop her, but honestly, if Bella actually tried, getting past Narcissa wouldn’t be a problem. She was four years older, more experienced and a more powerful witch, and she’d point her wand at just about anyone she had to – even Cissa – to get to Lucius right now. That didn’t mean she would actually hurt Narcissa, of course, because she wouldn’t do anything of the sort, but Petrificus Totalis and the like were useful spells in a situation like this. No, she told herself, she couldn’t think like that. It would be easier, yes, but would only result in more unnecessary conflict.
Narcissa’s next comment actually caused her to freeze up for a moment, though, and she sat back in her chair. ”No, you’re right,” she said, a hint of reluctant resignation in her voice. ”He wouldn’t approve.” She looked away as she thought of how the Dark Lord might react to hearing that she’d waltzed into Hogwarts with the intent of possibly murdering not only a student, but a true pureblood and a Death Eater-to-be. He would not be amused. The thought sent a shiver up her spine, and her eyes darted quickly around the room as if she thought he might have heard all her thoughts somehow. That was ridiculous, of course – he had better things to do than spy on her – but the mere thought was enough for her to reconsider murdering Malfoy.

Narcissa didn't care that Bella didn't like hearing "I'm not a child" from her, it was true. Narcissa was fifteen years old and while she might not be a full witch in the eyes of the Ministry of Magic yet she was pretty darn close. She certainly wasn't a child who needed to be taken by the hand and shown what to do, or one to be guarded and protected as if she were a porcelain doll. "I do intend to do something about him," She spat back at her sister with a little more venom in her tone than was strictly necessary. She was pissed off and was taking it out on Bellatrix simply because her sister was here, whereas Malfoy (whom she would have enjoyed taking her anger out on) was somewhere in the castle and therefore out of her reach at the present time.
It was obvious to Narcissa that Bella was not quite convinced that she could deal with this on her own, but apparently there was one thing that could get through to her sister, The Dark Lord. Bella seemed to realize that he would not be happy with her storming Hogwarts to kill Malfoy, a member of one of the most respected pureblood families in their world, and also a future Death Eater. As Bella's eyes darted around the room Cissy realized that she had never seen her sister like this. Jumpy, nervous, maybe even a little paranoid. This wasn't her Bella, and as irritating as the other Bella was sometimes Narcissa wouldn't want her any other way, certainly not in this paranoid state.
"So just let me deal with him Bella," Narcissa said, finally moving back to her seat across from her where her sister was sitting. "I've got the knowledge and the ability to," She pulled out her wand and rolled it between her fingers as she spoke, a slight smirk resting on her lips, "It's simple really." She had the argument in the bag now. There was no way Bella couldn't say that the most obvious and practical solution to this problem was to just let Cissy deal with Lucius her way. "Besides," She added, "I told Lucius I could take care of myself, and if you come after him instead of me he'll think I'm just a child to be played with." Narcissa hoped that would help her case, if Bella weren't already sold on it. There was no way her sister would want her to appear helpless in font of Lucius, that would just encourage him to try again.

Bellatrix was temporarily not even listening to Narcissa, too occupied with thoughts of the Dark Lord. He was unpredictable, dangerous and sadistic, and the one thing she was genuinely terrified of was disappointing him. Ironically, the knowledge that he might potentially murder her if she did so had nothing to do with that fear. That was just the way it was, nothing to be scared of. Regardless, her fear stopped her from charging up to Hogwarts and killing Lucius Malfoy. It even caused her to nod as she finally registered Narcissa speaking, saying something about being able to deal with Malfoy herself. It still wasn’t something she could bring herself to actually believe, but she would have to accept it until…
Until what? Until she went up to the Dark Lord himself and told him that she wanted to kill one of his other followers? Great plan. Actually, now that she thought about it, she could do that. The worst that could happen was that he told her she couldn’t. No, that simply wasn’t true and she knew it. It might even be considered treason, which would be bad for her. She wouldn’t be punished too badly just for asking, though. It meant she was loyal enough to seek the Dark Lord’s before acting on something he might not want her to. Yes, she could ask. And she would. Hopefully, Narcissa wouldn’t find herself utterly humiliated by Malfoy before that time came. She had faith in her little sister, of course she did, but the blonde had already been fooled by him once and, well, being fooled by a little insect like Lucius Malfoy didn’t speak well for anyone.
Once again, Bella rose from her seat, much more calmly now than before. ”Fine, Cissy,” she said, an apparent coolness in her voice that hadn't been there before. ”Do whatever you want. I have to leave. I have to…” She wasn’t really in much of a hurry, but her thoughts had made this place – anywhere that was not her home, really – feel unsafe. She looked around once again, still half awaiting that the Dark Lord would pop up out of nowhere at any moment and told her he’d heard everything. She crossed her arms in an almost defensive manner, as if to protect herself from some strange threat invisible to anyone else. Then, her dark eyes met her sister’s gaze again. ”I have to go. Don’t do anything stupid.”
