Fresh air was nice. It wasn't like Charla didn't get enough of it, being a chaser on the Quidditch team and all, but she loved it too much. Whenever she had the opportunity to escape from the castle and go outside, she was quick to take it. The Gryffindor team was practicing (more like fiddling around) on the pitch, which was entertaining to say the least. Charlie sat in the stands on the second one from the front so she could sit her fashionably booted feet on the first bench.
The weather was absolutely stunning on this particular day. The sun was out, the birds were chirping, and it was just warm enough so you didn't have to wear three hundred layers. Alright, so the standard was three, but luckily today Charla only found herself wearing one. It was probably one of the last days before the cold weather found its way to Britain, and Charlie knew that. So there she sat, her DADA book propped on her legs with a bookmark (a scrap of paper to be exact) sticking out from the top where she'd left off from their current lesson. Well, current lesson to this Ravenclaw. The class as a whole was on the lesson before the one that she was reading. She just liked to be one step ahead.
For some reason, Charla just couldn't focus. The reason was widely known through her group of friends, but she couldn't find herself accepting it. After all, their hook-ups had been her fault... No names were going to be mentioned in her thoughts, to keep her from playing the blame game or saying his name which always turned out bad. It was totally like Charlie to overreact like this, but it had been worse this time. She hadn't eaten in what seemed like a day or two, and she'd slept a maximum of five hours in what was definitely two days... Actually, she wasn't sure.
Her thoughts were scattered, running every place they could possibly run inside of her mind. It was aggravating to the highest degree. She drummed her fingers on the cover of the book and looked out on the pitch again. Maybe what she needed was a game. A good, brutal game so she could chase like she'd never done before. That wasn't for a week or so, though, and practice was in a few days. So, for now, Charla had to find a different way to escape. The problem was she didn't know what to do that would make her stop thinking about her situation. It was getting ridiculous--her obsession with this whole ordeal, and she wanted it to end.
Talking yourself out of your feelings never worked, though. It didn't stop her from trying.

Gwen had a great many places around the school that she liked to study. The library was always too quiet for her, and she found that she preferred there to be some sort of distraction, or else she had difficulty getting any work done. She supposed it was because she preferred an environment that felt more natural, whereas the library was a place where people were forced to be silent surrounded by dozens of books. The stands of the Quidditch Pitch were one of the places that Gwen did go to study, because the light wind of the high tower and the random fliers that soared around gave the area a peaceful normalcy that Gwen loved. It was also very familiar, as she spent a lot of time around the pitch, either playing or practicing or watching matches didn’t involve Ravenclaw house.
As Gwen reached the bottom of the nearest stand tower to the castle, she looked up, noting that she would not be alone. Even from her place on the ground, she could spot Charla with one of her textbooks. However, her friend didn’t really seem to be reading as much as she was thinking. “CHARLIE!” Gwen called, waving one hand over her head, a wide grin on her face. After catching her best friend’s attention, Gwen started the long walk up the many flights of stairs of the stand tower, school bag slung over one shoulder.
She hadn’t seen Charlie in a couple days, and that was rare. Was her friend avoiding her? She wasn’t sure, and she certainly hoped not. When Gwen went down to meals or up to the dormitory, Charlie was almost never there anymore. It was odd, and Gwen didn’t know what to make of it, but she paid the oddity little mind. It wasn’t like Charlie was mad at her or anything…right? Gwen made a mental note to ask OJ about Charlie’s behavior later. Maybe he would have some idea as to why she was acting so strangely. Then again…Orsino was acting strangely himself.
As Gwen reached the top of the stands, she ran down them to sit next to Charlie, dropping her school bag at her feet. “Hey!” She reached out her arms to give her friend a hug, and then propped her own feet up on the stand one down from theirs just like Charla. “How’ve you been? I haven’t seen you in…well…way too long.”

The shouting of her own name made Charla jump. It was definitely a good jump, though. She had missed her best friend. "GWEN!" She frantically waved back and smiled brightly as her friend scaled the many stairs up to the stands. It was safe to assume that Charlie wasn't getting any studying done, now. She wouldn't have even if Gwen hadn't have come. Her mind was off in la la land, anyway.
A rush of guilt fell over her almost immediately. It hadn't occurred to her that, within her solitude, she wasn't hanging out with her best friend who needed her just as much as she needed Gwen. Gah! She was two seconds away from smacking herself. She was in Ravenclaw for a reason. Why hadn't she thought of Gwen through all of her self pity? Well, Gwen's well-being, anyhow. Plus, she'd mostly been thing about Orsino and that alone was enough to keep her busy for maybe a month or twenty.
Charla hugged Gwenniepoo tight to her and let a few hymns of a laugh escape, "Hi." Then another stab to the heart was made. Charlie sighed and played with the sleeves of her sweater. "I know, I'm sorry. I haven't seen anyone lately, really." She smiled softly at her partner in crime and then looked back out at the pitch. It was constantly crossing her mind that Gwen was going to confront her about her recent behavior. She just didn't know when it would happen, but she was prepared for it. She'd acted out many scenarios in her head that would likely be played out sooner or later between the two Ravenclaws.
It didn't compare to the actual thing, no way. Charla wanted to just empty her heart out right then and there, but that was illogical. It would overwhelm Gwen and make everything weird. So the brunette kept her composure and took a silent deep breath, but she nervously kept picking at her sweater. Her anxiety wasn't easy to hide. Luckily, that was a habit of hers, so maybe Gwen wouldn't notice. Deep inside, Charlie knew she would notice. They knew each other like the back of their hands. Might as well give up all hope on that plan working out.

Gwen’s initial plan where she just hoped that everything was alright with Charlie never would have worked out anyway. Her friend meant to much to Gwen to have her just sit and watch Charla continue to pick aimlessly at that sweater, the tell that something was wrong. Gwen pursed her lips, and crossed her arms momentarily over her chest, hoping that the restless picking would cease soon. Needless to say, it didn’t, and Gwen knew that the time for serious conversation was now, and that, if she didn’t talk to Charla now, it would only get more difficult as time went on.
Gwen put a hand out to squash Charlie’s against her sweater, forcing her to stop pulling at the threads. Raising her eyebrows, she waited a moment, then lifted her hand away from her friend, hoping that she’d gotten the idea. She didn’t need to hide behind pointless, nervous ticks. She had no reason to be nervous in the first place. This was Charla and Gwen. No matter what happened, they never fought. What was the worst that would happen if their conversation took a turn for the worse? Well…yes, there was a chance Gwen could get worked up like she usually did, but it wouldn’t last. Their friendship was always more important.
“Is everything ok…you know…with you?” Gwen knew that it wasn’t healthy to not eat and sleep. Without eating, Charla was denying herself the energy and nutrients her body needed, and without sleep, she wasn’t giving her body and mind time to rest and regenerate. Gwen knew it was silly to take it so seriously, but she’d been there. She was sure that everybody had been there at least once in their lives. It had only been a couple days, but she didn’t want this to become normal for her friend. Demitri wouldn’t be so happy with her if she wasn’t on her A game for Quidditch, and maybe her grades would even start to slip!
“That’s it. What is it? Talk to me.” Gwen crossed her hands over her chest, raising her eyebrows and pursing her lips at her friend. She was going to find out what was bothering her whether Charla wanted her to or not.

Charlie pouted. She wanted to keep picking at her sweater and sooner or later pick a hole in it, so that she could go out shopping again and take her mind off of all of this. Hey.. that wasn't such a bad plan. For now, since Gwen's hand was bluntly making its point, she parted her hand from her sweater sleeve and looked up at her best friend. Deep down, Charla knew this wouldn't be awkward, but she couldn't help thinking it would be. Gwen couldn't have been oblivious to the fact that she had feelings for OJ, could she? No, of course not. They knew each other well enough that if one looked at a boy in a certain way they'd get twenty questions that were all centered around whether or not she thought he was cute.
Clearing her throat, Charla shook her head. She couldn't lie to Gwen. Last time she tried, Gwen jumped on her case immediately, because no matter how hard Charlie tried, she just sucked at lying. Straight up. So, so bad at trying to fake things. Maybe it was the kindness, or the simple nature that was the young Ravenclaw. Either way, she knew better than to lie to her best friend of six years. They were basically sisters at this point.
And then she was confronted! Gwen knew how to break Charlie's shell. The latter knew it, too. Damn it. "I'm just letting my feelings control my life again," she sniffled innocently, "For the six thousandth time. You know. The usual." She looked up at the inquisitive Gwen and held her breath. This was going to end up messy on Charla's side. Perhaps all she needed was to talk to Gwenog. After all, they'd been with each other through everything and by now they knew how to reason with the other.
BREATHE! Charla let out a deep breath when she realized she wasn't breathing throughout that whole thought process. She was getting to the point of hopelessness, dear Merlin that was by far the stupidest thing she'd ever done. She was rather full of stupid these days. She wasn't really living up to the Ravenclaw standard. A few days ago, she couldn't even answer the question to get into the common room! Pathetic. Charla still couldn't believe she didn't know which came first between the Phoenix and the flame. She'd sat in the corridors thinking on it for at least an hour before someone came along and answered it for her.
