Holding his letter in his hand, Gideon sealed it and looked at his owl. "You be good, and actually try to make it on time, okay?" His tone was soft when addressing his owl like so. He was always gentle with animals. They were one of his weaknesses, no doubt. He put the letter in his owl's beak and sent it off with care. As he watched it fly off, he leaned against the window sill.
How cool would it be to just fly off like that? Then again, having to basically be a mail carrier had to be a drag, too. He'd rather be stuck in Hogwarts then have to fly back and forth. What's the use of wings if you can't do what you please and fly wherever you want? Gideon saw no use in wishing of a thing like that if you couldn't even enjoy it.
It was the end of the day, already. He'd written the owl to his father. It was a monthly thing, he always sent it at the exact same time each month so often that it became a routine. Routines were alright, though. They kept this Gryffindor in check, and made sure he did what all he was supposed to before he forgot.
As he turned, his eyes met a familiar face. He smirked softly and put his hands in his pockets, "Sophie, how nice to see you." Sophie was, by far, one of his best friends. He never got in the habit of calling her Sophia. He thought Sophie showed... well, the right amount of affection and acknowledgement. If someone was that dear to Gideon and he just called them by their normal name, you probably assumed wrong. He always gave the closest people to him nicknames.

Sophia had a few letters she wanted to mail out to her family members. It was after classes, making it the perfect time to slip out of the castle and mail out her carefully crafted letters. Having been interested in literature and writing Sophia made sure everything she wrote was exactly what she wanted to say. By that she meant she liked clarity and sophistication as well. Sophia never used abbreviations nor did she use short and easy words. Part of her fun was figuring out a word to replace something that was inferior. This was what enabled her to carry around a pocket dictionary.
With that in mind Sophia made her way to the owlry. She hadn't expected anyone to actually be up there at the time. It was after all a chilly fall evening and many spent time after classes inside. She was rather surprised when she saw someone turn to face her. Sophia would be lying if she said she hadn't jumped because she had. Once she had herself collected and the scare knocked out of her she mentally slapped herself. It was nearly Gideon her good friend, not to mention her latest crush.
"You surprised me." She said brightly before making her way to her own owl, silently ordering it to bring the stack of letters to the members of her family. "But I suppose it was a nice surprise." She said with all honesty. She liked Gideon more than she actually expressed. She had formed a nice little crush on him throughout their years together. He was after all, handsome, and smart, and very athletic. She liked all those qualities...among other things as well. "I'm glad I ran into you I haven't seen you all day which is strange."

Gideon chuckled, "I didn't mean to startle you. I'm sorry." Playing with the hem of his sweatervest idly, he watched her. Not necessarily staring, because that's creepy beyond belief, but just every now and then he'd look up at her. It was hard not to. Could you blame the guy? He was only human... and of the male gender. There was only so much he could hold back.
A nice surprise? Alright, then. He didn't feel quite as awkward, now. She'd returned some of his affection. It was a start, after all. She could've been like, ew go away. With that in mind, Gideon kept his confident attitude up and running. Confidence was and will always be key. No sane person could resist someone who was confident, but not to the point of cocky. Just the right amount. It was charming, and Gideon knew it. So, he used it as a nice advantage.
He nodded slightly, "I know, it is quite strange. No wonder I was feeling a bit iffy all day, I hadn't seen my best friend!" He smiled kindly and turned to look outside again. It was true. He had felt off and distant all day. He was usually so happy and charismatic, but today was different. Something about this day was throwing him off, and he was going to get to the bottom of it. Whether it was because he hadn't talked to Sophia or not, he didn't know. He'd just have to see.
Turning his gaze back to Sophie, and then looking down at the floor, Gideon couldn't help but realize how much his feelings for her had grown. It was almost... scary. He wasn't a romantic. He wasn't out for a relationship. However, when he looked at Sophia, he couldn't help but feel like he wanted to give her the world and hold her as she marveled at it all.
Yuck. Gideon caught himself before he went any farther. This was just too much for him. Not in a bad way; he wasn't accustomed to feeling like this.
